Elon Musk has posted on Instagram the first official photo of his SpaceX space suit, teasing that more details will come in a few days.
Musk has said that it’s not a mock-up but it’s an actual suit that has been tested to double vacuum pressure. The suit looks super futuristic, like one made from the movies, with elegant white and black details, yet it’s ready for production and Musk acknowledges that it was “incredibly hard” to balance the suit’s aesthetics and functionality.
Although Elon Musk, didn’t specify much about the suit that he posted on Instagram, it seems that these will be the suits for the astronauts planned to mount the company’s Dragon Capsule.
They’re pressure suits, so they’re not meant for spacewalks, but are worn by astronauts during transport in case the capsule depressurizes. The suits will be worn by NASA astronauts for the commercial crew program when SpaceX starts launching people to and from the International Space Station.
