From startup to VR and Machine Learning, Web Summit 2015

It was a massive event with over 42,000 participants from over 135 countries, yet Paddy Cosgrove’s from Web Summit, as previously announced, confirmed plans for the next event in 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal for reasons, as he put it, that the Ministers of Ireland were not ready to sit down and talk about things related to the community and the impact that Web Summit has.

Beyond the traditional way of how events come to an end, Web Summit continued with a protest in front of the main government building, with the initiative #Walk4Eva, which aims to raise awareness that the Irish government reacts to change a law that limits education to Christian children only.

“Ireland has proven to be an open country for people from all over the world and for global businesses from all over the world, yet there is a tiny law that needs to be amended to allow the children of the new citizens that are coming from all over to be educated in the same way as Irish children are”, said Paddy in his closing remarks.

As every speaker and talk can be red in detail on the official blog of Web Summit, we’re not going to get into much detail as you surly need to watch the YouTube Live Recording and see for yourself.

However definitely worth mentioning is the packed central hall for the talk of CEO and co-founder of Tinder, Sean Rad and on the final day the inspiring talks from Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code and Rob Lloyd, CEO of Hyperloop and of course Ed Catmull, President of Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios and also winner of Five Academy Awards.

I’m not sure we’re able to do a better job than TechCrunch in selecting the most interesting startups from Web Summit, so we’ll stick to that list nicely collected by Mike Butcher himself.

The aim for Lisbon 2016 is among other to invite 10,000 female entrepreneurs and executives in order to inspire more women into the tech industry, so if you want to part of the change head over to to learn more.
