WordPress.com has announced today that all sites that use WordPress (including those that are self-hosted) will be able to run faster thanks to the support of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) a new initiative spearheaded by Google to dramatically improve the speed of your pages loading on phones and tablets.
Those who are hosting a website on WordPress.com don’t need to do anything because AMP will work automatically, while websites that self-host on WordPress can download an early version of the WP plugin right away here. We’ve already installed it and you can check our articles out by including a “/amp” after the permalinks of our articles, and you can see that everything loads super-fast. Just try adding “/amp” after the permalink of this article.
To see an example, check out this article or see a demo at g.co/amp. AMP is an open-source framework that allows browsers and apps to load your sites quickly on mobile devices. See the AMP site for more details on how it works.
You’ll start seeing speedy results in Google search results with a small lightning bolt next to them to indicate that they’ll load faster. Also if you want to contribute check out the github code.
We’re happy to be moving ahead with the latest technology on digjitale.com
