How to Web 2013, let’s grow together!

How to Web 2013 is organized around the „Letâ€s grow together!” central concept, motto that brings to focus the future development of the local and regional tech industries. On November 20 and 21 over 40 exceptional guest speakers from 4 continents will come to Bucharest to share their experiences in front of the estimated audience of over 800 persons.

How to Web 2013 will explore the „Letâ€s Grow Together!” central concept that brings into discussion the development of tech companies, products, and services with long term value, as well as the ways in which the local context can be used to leverage businesses. Participants will get the chance to discover practical applications for development tools & technologies, and they will also have access to presentations about future technologies that may influence the paradigm shifts or the evolution of UX/UI methodologies.

The beginning sections of each day of the conference include keynotes that will talk about innovation and the strategic ways of building long term tech companies, bringing sustainable benefits to both the founders and society as a whole. These themes will be approached by speakers such as Thomas Hartwing (CTO and Co-Founder of, one of the most important gaming companies in the world that is getting ready to be listed on the US stock market) or Paul Ford (VP and CEO SoftLayer, infrastructure company acquired by IBM with 2 billion USD at the beginning of the year).

Adii Pienaar (Co-Founder and ex-CEO Woo Themes - worldwide leader in creating WordPress themes and plugins), from South Africa, and Kei Shimada (Director of Business Development at Dentsu), from Japan, will come in front of the audience to talk about their experience of innovating and developing global businesses from “the end of the world”.

Tal Siach (Co-Founder and CMO, the worldâ€s largest community of infographics and data visualizations, having an R&D center in Cluj), Michael Levit (Founder of Spigot, startup that has its development center based in Bucharest) and Peter Brodsky (ex-Director of the SoundCloud R&D center in Sofia) are going to be part of a panel where they will debate their companies†option to use human resources in South-East Europe for the technical development of their products.

The user experience of a product or service is fundamental for the global success of a tech product. This topic will be discussed during How to Web by Alex Hunter (CEO Rushmore and ex-Online Marketing Director for Virgin Group global) and Åžtefan Szakal (CEO and Co-Founder X3, the most appreciated creative studio in Romania).

From a technology point of view, Philipp Kandal (Co-Founder and CTO of Skobbler) and Simon Stewart (Software Engineer at Facebook and core member of the team developing Selenium) will talk about big data, the role of automated testing as well as Facebook innovations for Android.

Practical tools & technologies for developers will be debated in a discussion panel with Martyn Davies (Developer Evangelist of SendGrid and API specialist), John Webb (Marketing Director for Startups and Developers at Rackspace) and Michael Wawra (Developer Evangelist at Twillio).

In the end of the event, Cristopher Martin (Senior Manager at Bosch) will talk about future technologies, thus offering a perspective on what we may expect from the discussions in the technological arena for the years to come.

During the two days, the second scene of the conference will host talks about startup financing with representatives of world-class accelerators and active investment funds in the region such as Sitar Teli (Managing Partner, Connect Ventures), Jure Mikuz (RSG Capital), Mihai Sfintescu (3TS), Jon Bradford (Managing Director, TechStars), Carlos Espinal (Partner, Seedcamp), Dylian Dimitrov (Eleven Startup Accelerator) or Lyuben Belov (LAUNCHub).

Startup Spotlight

How to Web will be doubled by a new Startup Spotlight edition, competition, and orientation program for the most innovative 32 startups in the region. During the program, the competing teams will have access to dedicated workshops, mentoring sessions, private meetings with investors and specialists, as well as cash prizes of 20.000 USD, awarded after the projects will be evaluated and pitches will be held on the How to Web stages.
