Around 2,500 visitors and 80 speakers from all over Europe came together in Vienna for the Pioneers Festival, one of the coolest tech events of the year.
For the third year in a row, Pioneers Festival, co-founded by Andreas Tschas and Jürgen Furian, hit another big success and gathered investors, mentors, startups and entrepreneurs under the glamorous roof of Vienna’s Hofburg.
“This is a festival, not a conference, enthusiastic Pioneers host Daniel Cronin opened the major event like a rock concert and encouraged the crowd to make the most out of its plenty opportunities. In parallel great stuff was happening in startup booths, meetups, networking, talks, innovations and the future of technology. The festival marked the kicking off of the world premier of Aero Mobile‘s flying car, designed by Stefan Klein, founder and head of the Department of Transport Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Slovakia.
Pioneers Festival was greeted by many top level protagonists such as Mike Butcher (Techcruch), Dennis Curry (Konica Minolta), Jennifer Hicks (Forbes) or Marvin Liao (500 startups)Â and many others.
While the shooting stars of biotech (e.g. Bri.Tech, Agrivi), music startups (e.g. Global Rockstar, Sofasession), healthtech (e.g. last year’s winners Bellabeat) or banking solutions (e.g. Oradian, Holvi) were spreading word of their projects, an important and major part of the event was around hardware startups where Hilton Romanski (Cisco) shared his opinion how to bring the physical and online world together, Polish Estimote and Ljubljana-based Cubesensors suggested hands-on solutions with their iBeacons.
The Winner of Pioneers Festival
Out of 1000 applications for the Pioneers Challenge, eight finalists were selected to pitch their project on stage. Zagreb-based Oradian emerged as a winner. The startup is the financial inclusion ecosystem delivering a disruptive, Cloud-based service that radically improves performance of financial institutions serving the base of the economic pyramid. As the winner Oradian will receive a 50.000 Dollar seed investment of Pioneers partner Speedinvest as well as partner meetings with globally renowned accelerators Y Combinator, Tech Stars and Lemnos Labs.
The next Pioneers edition is coming up on May 28 and 29, 2014 next year, so hope to see you soon and don’t forget to head over at pioneers.io for more details.
