The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj has revealed this week a new and mobile way of being more connected with the citizens of the capital of Albania, through which citizen engagement is aimed to be taken at an another level.
The mobile application, Tirana Ime which is powered by telecom provider Vodafona Albania, offers easy access to different informations and also enables citizens to report issues from their neighborhood and give them a chance to be more engaged with the Municipality.
“The reporting process is pretty simple: You open the app and describe the problem. You attach a photo and the municipality gets a team to action. Problem solved.” – well that’s how the Municipality sees the app working, but we’ll have to wait and see how the citizens will actually use it. So far looks like things are moving in the right direction as the mayor already posted some working examples on Facebook.
Among other features, the app offers direct information to cab companies and pick-up locations, bus stations, bus lanes and destinations, real-time traffic information around the city and also real-time camera access, which means you can see snapshots of the actual traffic in some parts of Tirana.
The feature-rich app has also important information on touristic spots and offers direct access to municipal zones so that people can see where their nearest destination for administrative duties is. The app can be downloaded for free on Play Store, while the iOSÂ version will be soon available.
Among the smart-city / smart citizens moves, the government of Albania presented a while ago another app known as the “Digital Police”, which has been developed especially for the citizens to report crime in full anonymity, reporting wrong parking, illegal construction, corruption, steeling, illegal weapon possession or even complain about bad Police behavior.
