Nowadays the unicorn term is commonly used to define startups that exceeds the value of $1 billion. Such unicorn includes the names of Uber, Snapchat, Airbnb, etc. Inc. Magazine has prepared a list of unicorns to watch in 2016, and it looks like some known names from 2015 are on that list for 2016.

Inc Magazine states that 2016 could be the year when this unicorn might take the fall, but that remains to be seen as 2016 is going to expect new companies to go public as well.

The Unicorns – Uber

Valued at 52 billion dollars, Uber is the most valuable privately held startup to date with an operation that spans to 63 countries and over 300 cities. Estimations say that the company valuation could move towards 70 billion next year, making it more valuable than General Motors or Ford Motors, however at some point according to Inc the co-founder Travis Kalanick will need to exit, either through an IPO or something else.

Airbnb

Airbnb is valued at 25 billion dollars, and wether it goes public or not the company is already facing a lot of questions around the world on how legal are the operations of the company. However the growth of Airbnb continues and currently, it operates in over 57,000 cities and over 150 countries.

Snapchat

Valued at 16 billion dollars, Snapchat is not a small unicorn. An offer refused at 3 billion in 2013 seems to have worked out for Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy, while 2016 seems to be the year when the company goes public.

Until then, head over to Inc. Magazine to see other unicorns to watch out in 2016.
