The Post and Telecom of Kosovo has signed a contract for the implementation of 4G technology (LTE), with two prestigious companies, Lucent and Nokia Siemens Networks Solutions, which will finally make possible for it’s customers to jump from EDGE / GPRS to data speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
4G technology (LTE) will enable consumers to wave speed data communication up to 100 Mbps, or 5 times greater than current 3G speed and at least 50 times greater than the current speed EDGE / GPRS. Implementation will begin immediately and 3G services will be offered to customers of Vala starting from Septembe, while services of 4G LTE will be offered by the end of this year; initially in urban centers to proceed further with 85% coverage of the Kosovo settlement until the first half of 2015.
Investments such as this today will put Vala back on track with competition with it’s services, ever since it has been struggling greatly through the privatization process, whereas the group that was selected to buy 75% of the stock of the company, Hamburg-based ACP Axos Capital Gmbh and the US-based private investment firm Najafi Companies, with an offer of 277 million euros, have failed to finalize the deal.
The other biggest competitor of Vala, IPKO has launched 3G services more than half a year ago, grabbing group after group of customers of Vala, which only now has managed to come to level of competition.
